Jiří Kovanda, (*1953) appeared on the art scene along with the second generation of Czech “action art” in the late 1970s. Kovanda is a truly unique phenomenon, a pioneer and innovator, known for his minimal poetic interventions. From day one, Kovanda preferred to digress from grand matters. He focused on the peripheral, the subtle, and imperceptible in order to offer grand insights for those who were “ready”. Jiří Kovanda’s work has been praised and exhibited in more then 90 solo shows and hundreds of group shows worldwide: selected examples – Dokumenta, Germany / Tate Modern, London, UK / Museo Nacional, Palacio de Cristal, Madrid, Spain / Biennale Sao Paulo, Brazil /Secession gallery, Vienna, Austria / Wallspace Gallery, New York, USA / GB agency, Paris, France / SVIT Gallery, Prague…
